Orthodontics, consider dental health along with appearance

During the winter vacation, many students decide to fix their dental abnormalities such as misaligned or gapped teeth.

Orthodontics helps to create a beautiful, heathy smile by improving patient’s functional and esthetical parameters of the face.

It is important to treat such malocclusions because irregular teeth can cause cavities or gum disease by trapping foreign substances between the teeth. In addition, it may also cause digestive problems due to the insufficient chewing function.

Orthodontic treatment helps improve the occlusion of the teeth as well as preventing dental diseases and premature teeth wearing. Although improvement in appearance is important, dental health is the main purpose of such treatment.

The conventional orthodontic devices used steel wires and silicon rings to fixate the devices. To improve the esthetic and minimize the pain, new devices using sliding door method are produced. Also, the duration of the treatment has reduced by 1/3 and instead of visiting the hospital for check-ups every 3-4weeks, the patient is now able to visit every 6-9 weeks.

Director of New Face Dental Hospital, Mr. Myung Ho Jung says, “Before proceeding with orthodontic treatment, it is very important to undergo thorough diagnosis to determine the level of facial asymmetry, malocclusion, and protrusion of the mouth. Such preoperative examinations help develop an optimal intervention for the patient. Since each person has subjective differences in their bone structures, it is important to find a dentist with numerous cases and years of experience.”
